User Guide

Using DNC Scrubber, you export your Do Not Call (DNC) files to a MySQL database (included). Then, you can check your existing list files and filter them using DNC Scrubber. The formats supported for list files are:

• a) ASCII Text file (*.txt)
• b) Comma Separated value file (*.csv)
• c) Microsoft Access file generated by ListMaker (*.mdb)

The interface for DNC Scrubber makes it a very user-friendly tool, which helps you to export DNC files to MySQL, scrub list files and save the results.

Features

Installation

First, Install MySQL...

MySQL Server Installation (required)
You can download MySQL from the following URL:

http://www.mysql.com/get/Downloads/MySQL-4.0/mysql-4.0.16-win.zip/from/pick

To install:
1. Run the setup.exe file for starting the installation of MySQL server
2. Click on "Next" button on the "Welcome" window
3. Click on "Next" button on the "Information" window
4. Click on "Next" button on the "Choose Destination Location" window. Here the default folder for installation of MySQL Server should be "C:\mysql"
5. Choose the "Custom" radio option in the "Setup Type" window as shown below and click on "Next" button

6. Click the "Next" button on the "Select Components" window
7. Allow the installation to continue and click on "Finish" button on the Setup Complete window
8. Reboot the system to complete the installation

MySQL ODBC Driver Installation (required)
MyODBC is the ODBC Driver for MySQL. You can download one from the following URL:

http://www.mysql.com/downloads/api-myodbc-3.51.html

To install:
1. Double click on the setup file or the file which you downloaded from the above URL
2. Click "Next" button on the "Welcome" screen
3. Click "Next" button on the "Readme" screen
4. Click "Next" button on the "Start Installation" screen
5. Click "Finish" button on the "Finish" screen

MySQL Control Center Installation (optional)
Note: MySQL Control Center is not mandatory to install for running DNC Scrubber application. Its purpose is to provide a presentation layer to the table created in MySQL database.

You can download one from the following URL:

To install:
1. Run the installer for MySQL Control Center from the CD, or the setup file which you downloaded from the above mentioned URL
2. Click "Next" button on the "Welcome" screen
3. Choose on "I Accept The License Agreement" option in the "License Agreement" screen and click on "Next" button
4. Click "Next" button on the "Readme Information" screen
5. Click "Next" button on the "Destination Folder" screen
6. Click "Next" button on the "Select Features" screen
7. Click "Next" button on "Ready To Install" screen
8. Click "Finish" button after installation of files is complete

Next, install the DNC Scrubber

DNC Scrubber Installation

1. Run setup.exe located in the folder "DNC Scrubber" on the CD-ROM
2. Click on "Next" button on the welcome window
3. Click on "Next" button for the "Choose Destination Location" window for installing the program on "C:\Program Files\DNC Scrubber"
4. Click on "Next" button for the "Select Program Management Group" window
5. Click on "Next" button for the "Start Installation" window
6. Click on "Finish" button for the installation complete window

You are now ready to begin scrubbing your lists!

Using the DNC Scrubber

Migrating DNC Files to MySQL

Open the DNC Scrubber and click the option on the main window which says "Migrate DNC to MySQL"

In the new window select the DNC file which is to be migrated to MySQL format by first clicking the "Folder" icon.

Browse to the DNC list you wish to use, and click on "Next".

In the new window, select the correct phone number field.

Click on "Import". This selection window is only presented if the file has one record on one line and not if all records appear on the same line.

In the new screen type in the name with which you would like to save the DNC file as in MySQL. You can type in any valid file name which windows allows, or you can simple use exactly the same name as the name of the file you had initially selected for migrating.

Note: If the file you selected for migrating had other records on the same line, you will encounter the following screen after choosing the file.

Again, type in the name of the file to be saved and click on "Import".

Once you click on "Save" or "Import" you will see a message which says "Importing successful". MySQL saves the file in the "C:\mysql\data\Spitfire\" folder with the (*.myd) file extension.

You can click on "Finish" to return to main menu, or click on "Go Back" to choose another DNC file to migrate to MySQL.

Scrubbing List Files

On the main window, click on "Scrub list file"

On the new screen, select the file to be scrubbed by clicking on the "Folder" icon and browsing to the desired file. This can be an (*.mdb) file or (*.txt) file

If you select an (*.mdb) file for scrubbing against the DNC files, you have the option of selecting which type of phone number you wish to scrub. Clicking on the scrubbing options label will result in the following screen where you can choose the phone number type.

Next, select the DNC file which you created earlier. These files are saved as (*.myd) files in the local system in the folder "C:\mysql\data\SpitFire".

If you select an (*.mdb) file for scrubbing, multiple DNC files can be selected in the above window. This means that your list file will be filtered against each of these DNC files. You can select multiple files by pressing the Shift button on your keyboard and left clicking on each file name to select the files.

Now select the "Floppy disk" icon to save the scrubbed file in your specified folder. Note: If list selected for scrubbing is a (*.mdb) file then it will be saved as (*.mdb) and if list selected for scrubbing is a (*.txt) file then it will be saved as (*.txt).

Click on "Process" to start the scrubbing process. A progress bar will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Note: If you need to, you can click on "Go Back" in the middle of the scrubbing process, but it will leave the process incomplete, and file will not be totally scrubbed.

Click on "Go Back" to return to the main menu or "Finish" to close DNC Scrubber.

Your list is now scrubbed and ready to use! It's that easy!

1. "A suitably-equipped (Pentium or better) computer running Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000"
2. A minimum configuration of 128 MB of RAM is recommended.
3. Approximately 7 megabytes of hard disk space required for full installation.
